AI training for financial planning administration teams
This track is for the paraplanners and client service teams, not the advisers. The advice stays where it is.
The work that eats the week
Every track starts from a task list, not a curriculum. This is the list for financial planning administration, with the tool we’d reach for on each one. If three of these are yours, the training has something to work on.
| Task | Tool |
|---|---|
| Summarising product disclosure statements A ninety-page PDS you need the relevant six paragraphs from, today. | Claude |
| Review meeting packs and agendas Structured documents assembled from the same components every time. | Claude |
| Client correspondence and meeting confirmations Volume work at the front of the practice where tone sets the relationship. | ChatGPT |
| File notes written up from meeting notes The record that has to exist, written from notes you already took. | Claude |
| Internal process and checklist documentation How a review actually runs here, so it does not depend on one person. | Claude |
| Fee disclosure and consent correspondence Deadline-driven, repetitive, and expensive to get wrong. | ChatGPT |
| Anything that constitutes personal advice On the never list. This is the whole boundary of this track. | Neither |
Tool choice here is a starting point, not a rule — see which tool for which job for the reasoning.
Where the line sits
The advice line. Personal advice is a licensed activity. Nothing in this training produces, drafts or suggests a recommendation for a specific client. If a task would put words in an adviser's mouth, it is out of scope.
The privacy line. Client financial positions, statements and identity documents stay out of general-purpose AI tools. De-identified scenarios are fine; a real client file is not.
We say no to more work in this vertical than in any other on the site. That is deliberate, and it is usually the reason a licensee will let the training happen at all.
What the training covers
The foundations are the same for every business — roughly seventy per cent of what you need is not industry-specific at all. The order changes, and the examples are all yours.
- Getting output you can actually use
- Building reusable setups
- Working with long documents
- What never goes in
- Writing your team’s AI policy
How it’s usually delivered
For financial planning administration the usual starting shape is a policy session first, then a workshop for the support team. The assessment confirms it against your own answers rather than assuming.
Who’s in the room. The practice principal or licensee representative buys. Paraplanners and client service managers are the audience. Advisers usually sit in for the first hour.
What you’d have at the end
- A written rule the licensee has seen and agreed to before anyone is trained
- PDS and research summarising that saves hours per review without touching the advice
- Review pack components as reusable setups
- Client correspondence drafted consistently across the whole support team
The questions we get asked
Will our licensee allow this?
Ask them before you book it. In our experience they allow it readily once the scope explicitly excludes advice, and the policy piece is what gives them that.
Can it write a statement of advice?
No. It can help with the non-advice scaffolding around one. The recommendation and the reasoning stay with the adviser.
Is this just for paraplanners?
Mostly. Client service and administration get as much out of it, and they are the ones handling the correspondence volume.
Regulatory context
Relevant bodies and frameworks: ASIC and the Corporations Act, the Financial Advisers Register and the Code of Ethics, the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, and your licensee's own policies, which override everything here.
Compliance content on this vertical should be reviewed by a qualified adviser before publication. We name no CPD hour figures anywhere on this site — requirements differ by body and by state, and an out-of-date number is worse than none.
