What Claude is better at
Not a review. Three shapes of work where it's the one we reach for, and the ones where it isn't.
Reviewed September 2026. This page names fast-moving vendor detail, so it carries a review date.
Long input, one careful answer
Contracts, bundles, rulings, strata reports, plan sets, transcripts. Work where the input is long, the question is narrow, and a fluent wrong answer costs you something. Detail on long documents.
Sustained voice across many drafts
The fifteenth vendor report of the week should read like the first. Given examples and a held setup, this is where Claude is noticeably steadier — useful anywhere a team's output has to look like it came from one organisation.
Thinking with several moving parts
A scope with dependencies, a policy that has to satisfy three obligations at once, an argument with an order to it. Work where you want the reasoning shown so you can disagree with a step rather than just the conclusion.
Where we'd use something else
- Twenty short jobs in an hour — the wrong shape for it.
- Talking rather than typing, which is ChatGPT’s strength and matters enormously in the field.
- Photo-driven tasks, where ChatGPT is generally the smoother experience.
Reusable setups
Projects are the mechanism that turns a good session into a habit — how we set them up.
What it's genuinely better at
- Long inputs held consistently. A bundle of reports or a forty-page contract summarised without the quality tailing off in the last third.
- Sustained voice. A document that has to sound like your firm all the way through, not just in the opening paragraph.
- Multi-step reasoning where the working needs to be visible, so you can check the path rather than just the answer.
- Reusable setups that hold your context and examples for a whole team — covered under Projects.

Where it's the wrong reach
Thirty short, near-identical follow-ups where speed of entry is the whole game. Talking to it from a van between jobs. Anything where the input is a photo of a handwritten note. Those belong on the other side of the split.
If most of your week is long documents, that's usually the starting module. Tell us what they are.
